JITNEY

by August Wilson, directed by Kathy Hunter-Williams
April 30-May 23

Set in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1977, this gritty and compassionate comedy explores the struggles of the drivers at a gypsy cab company. A captivating chapter in Wilson’s magnificent 10-play cycle reflecting the African American experience in the 20th Century.

THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

August 21 – September 13

A luckless but quick-witted servant comes up with a plan to double his wages and ends up caught between feuding lovers in this high energy farce from Italy’s most beloved and influential playwright.

The Deep Dish Book Book Selection for this production is Joseph Andrews, by Henry Fielding. A discussion of the book, free and open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m., prior to the performance on Thursday, September 11. SIDE DISH

The Deep Dish Theater Company will present an evening of readings on baseball, “Fall Classics,” on Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. Admission for the event is a suggested donation of $5 or a non-perishable food item, with proceeds to benefit the Inter-faith Council’s Food Bank.

October 23 – November 15

The last play by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Heidi Chronicles concerns a conservative college student and the celebrated liberal professor who charges him with plagiarism. A fierce and funny look at the struggle to preserve academic freedom.


The Deep Dish Book Book Selection for this production is On Beauty, by Zadie Smith. A discussion of the book, free and open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m., prior to the performance on Thursday, November 13.

Barbara Bates Smith, who brought On Agate Hill to Deep Dish last spring, performs her adaptation of Lee Smith’s holiday favorite. In a vivid and gossipy format, a very real family story unfolds. Seven performances only!
